TORY TOP CHOCOLATE SHOP
Tucked away on Malboro St, Tory Top is a cosy café turned artisan chocolate shop, complete with an intimate workshop space hidden out the back. Owned and run by Cork local Paul, whose Northside roots inspired the shop’s name, Tory Top first began life in San Francisco before Paul eventually returned home to Cork to continue the business in his own community.
From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and full of personality. Paul and his team are passionate about sharing their craft, creating an experience that feels immersive, hands-on, and genuinely good craic from start to finish.

During our recent visit, we were guided through the chocolate-making process by Paul himself, creating our own chocolate bars from scratch before wrapping them up to take home. Along the way, he shared insight into the careful sourcing and testing of cacao beans, explaining how different varieties are researched and selected to ensure the highest quality chocolate possible. Remarkably, the chocolate is made using just two simple ingredients, cacao beans and sugar, allowing the flavours of the beans themselves to shine through.
Sustainability and quality control are also at the heart of Tory Top’s philosophy, with minimal waste throughout the process and everything either reused, consumed, or recycled wherever possible.
The workshops cater for all ages, from immersive adult classes, where weekend guests can even bring along a bottle of wine, to fun kids’ workshops where little chocolatiers can create their own sweet pizzas using fresh bases sourced from neighbouring restaurant Nosta.

REBEL CITY DISTILLERY
Located in the historic former Ford factory on Cork’s Marina, Rebel City Distillery offers an experience that’s far more than just cocktails. Best known for their expertly crafted Maharani Gin, the Cork-owned distillery invites visitors in for an immersive evening filled with storytelling, flavour, and plenty of good craic.
During our recent visit, we took part in one of the distillery’s cocktail workshops, guided by owner Bhagya alongside bartender Ben. From the very beginning, the experience felt personal, relaxed, and engaging. Bhagya is a natural storyteller, sharing the journey behind the Maharani brand and the passion she and her husband Robert poured into building it together.
Throughout the evening, guests are taken on a journey through the couple’s roots, inspirations, and the influence of Indian culture and spice that can be found throughout the brand and its flavours. Robert’s background in biochemistry also plays a key role in the distilling process, bringing a unique scientific approach to creating their spirits.

The distillery itself adds even more character to the experience. Housed within the old Ford factory, many original features and exposed walls have been carefully preserved, allowing the building’s history and industrial charm to remain part of the story.
And that’s not all, Rebel City Distillery also hosts distillery tours, guided tastings, spirit school experiences where guests can create and bottle their own spirits, gin and cheese pairings, and even their popular “Tipsy Tea” experience.
